RIP 311 Steve Newman

17/06/2012 10:39

It is with great regret that we have to report on the untimely passing of 2L Stock Car Driver 311 Steve Newman who was involved in a tragic fatal accident in the Saloon British Final which took place at Mildenhall last night.

311 Steve Newman - a massive character in the 2L National Saloons

Steve was a big part of the scene at the Norfolk Arena having raced TSR 1300 Stock Cars for many years before progressing to the 2L Stock Cars where for many years he had performed as a truly entertaining star in the mould of a real "old fashioned" stock car racer who loved nothing more than being involved in a hard race with his peers. In between all that he also raced a Big Van at Lynn as well as making an appearance in a BriSCA F1 Stock Car at Lynn last year.

Off track Steve was known as a driver who was always happy to help fellow drivers and offer advice and was always the first to offer support and sponsorship to events in the sport whether it being providing gallons of pink paint for the ladies team in the the Battle of the Sexes clash or supporting the Clive Grief Memorial or Bumper Trophy which he had enthusiastically done since their outset.

Steve was involved in many short oval formulas and as well as Saloons he also raced 1300 Stock Cars and also had a dabble in the Big Van Bangers and BriSCA F1

It is impossible to put into words what is felt by everyone following an incident such as what happenned last night to a driver and person as great as Steve. All we can do is let Steve's family, children and friends know that they are in our utmost thoughts.

Our thoughts also go to the other drivers involved in the race and unavoidable accident and to the hard working officials at RDC at Mildenhall who did everything they could to save Steve.

RIP Steve Newman - Gone but not forgotten
