King's Lynn Sat 24 April - 6.30pm
22/04/2010 09:37
Stock Car and Banger Racing returns to the Norfolk Arena on Saturday 24 april (6.30pm) for one of only two occasions throught 2010 when Stock Car fans can see the ultimate Stock Car combo in action on shale - F1 Stock Cars and 2L Stock Cars.
36 F1 Stock Cars are currently booked in for action, with the possability still of a couple of extra names - with the entry being headed by World Champion 1 Andrew Smith who will be making his first appearance of the year at King's Lynn.
Don't expect Andrew to have everything his own way though with a large number of other top names booked in for action including 55 Craig Finnikin who won the final last month at King's Lynn, current points leader 4 Dan Johnson and Norfolk Superstar who often makes the Lynn track his own 16 Matt Newson.
380 Steve Cayzer and 97 Murray Harrison (pictured below) are always serious dangers to the front runners whilst 84 Tom Harris and 259 Paul Hines will be amongst those with their own agenda of taking the chequered flag.
6 F1 Stock Cars are on the agenda with the meeting kicking off with the traditional White & Yellow race which provides the perfect showcase for the lower graders to show their talent. Fans favorite 307 Tim Warwick will be looking to win his third Stars of Tomorrow heat on the trot whilst teen star in the making 191 Joshua Smith won his first F1 trophy in this race last time out with a runner up finish. Since then Smith has won a heat proper and a final which has seen him move up to yellow - could the Stars of Tomorrow race see him get his first piece of silverware from yellow?
Following the Stars of Tomorrow race there will be a two thirds format with an all in heat and grand national. Assuming all bookings are honoured this will give heat grids of 24 which should give some superb action on the super smooth Lynn surface.
Also in action on Saturday are the always fantastic 2L Stock Cars. 32 saloons are currently booked in for action as the Norfolk Arena continues to enjoy fantastic turnouts of the all action Stock Cars.
This will be the final meeting before the new grade changes and looking to take full advantage will be the current King's Lynn track leaders 127 Steve and 191 Shaun McMillan who have been in fantastic form this season and the Wisbech brothers are currently the 1 - 2 in the track championship.
219 Luke Grief is currently ideally poised to challenge for a title which he has been so close to winning in recent year whilst former champion 499 David Aldous (pictured below) is also in a great early position in the track championship after showing good early form.
There is little doubt that the biggets surprise so far is the low position of defending champion 511 Craig Barnett who is currently gunning for his ninth Lynn title in ten years - a nightmare start to the year has given Barnett's rivals the chance to steal a march on him and although the very talented racer is by no means out of the picture, he will need to post a good score on saturday to start to redress the balance.
149 Jamie Sampson is back fresh from his Easter Monday final victory whilst 638 Micky Bulldeath will be looking to guide his new smart machine to another win before going up to blue next week.
Visiting drivers include 120 shane Brown from the West Country who has been going very well on the loose and although Brown has yet to win a race this year his multitude of runner up and third place finishes indicate that a win can only be round the corner!
The 2L Stock Cars will have a White & Yellows Race before going into an all in 2 heats and final format.
The video below is from a previous F1 & 2L Stock Car Combo and will give you an idea what to expect.
Completing saturday's line up are the Lady Bangers making their first appearance of the season. National Points Champions 362 Zara Walden will be in action with fellow star 3 Danielle Hewitt making her first Lynn appearance in the Lady Bangers for 12 months. Please note that the first of the three lady banger races is a pre meeting race and takes place at 6.15pm.
